Would This Google Chrome TV Ad Make You Switch Browsers?
<head scratching>
Let me ask you something. Would this TV ad compel you to try Google’s Chrome web browser?
Google plans to run the ad on television networks starting this weekend.
Do you think the average web user will know that Google Chrome is an alternative to Internet Explorer? Also, where’s the download link?

NING-Free Social Platform
I belong to several Ning sites and have started a few of my own. It is FREE and easy to use…
Ning Shows Some Zing
Ning has hit a pretty significant milestone reports cnet. The social network enabler has just seen its one millionth
network set up. This was accomplished in two years which makes the number even more impressive (average of 1,370 networks started per day).Of course, it doesn’t hurt when Marc Andreessen is a co-founder and the timing was good considering the upswing in popularity of social marketing / media / networking over the past two years. The flip side of that is the possibility that the folks at Ning had a pretty accurate crystal ball and called this one pretty well. Either way, being good fortune or recognizing opportunity the success is there.
Ning has overcome its fair share of adversity as well.
Ning lost 20 percent of its page views in December when it chose to shut down networks containing porn and other adult content. Traffic had recovered in February, CEO Gina Bianchini told CNET News.
The company made a business decision to clean house of the rough stuff back in December and it went into effect in January. The $60 million raised in VC way back when certainly helped with this decision as did some pressure from advertisers.
The CEO who has been on the cover of Fast Company in the past told cnet that the most successful sites are those that have rabid and passionate followings like thetwilightsaga.com which is
an official fan site for the vampire-themed book series that converted to a Ning network shortly after the first book was turned into a hit movie. In two months, 94,000 people joined, she said.
One thing to note is that while there are 1 million networks the active member numbers aren’t quite that high. One fifth of the networks are considered active while 6.1 million of the 22 million registered users are classified as active.
With a small staff and good backing we may well be hearing more about Ning as the economy really starts to weed out the players and posers.

Free Web Conferencing – DimDim

- Image via Wikipedia
DimDim is a web conferencing service free for up to 20 people.
Web based, with no software to download, it’s an easy solution for online collaboration.
The built in conference call and voip technology make setup a breeze. You can schedule meetings in advance, or use the meet now option to share on the fly. DimDim allows you to enter email addresses of attendees and they will be sent an invitation, or use your desktop mail client to send them an invitation.
With a built in instant messaging feature, you can easily talk to specific attendees, or to the whole group. The included whiteboard feature, and the ability to upload pdf documents and powerpoint presentations to share make presenting fast and easy.
DimDim also includes features like sharing your desktop, webpages, and even simultaneously showing you as you talk via your webcam. Click on the name of any attendee and you’ll have the option to make them the presenter, and once they accept with the click of a mouse, they’ll be given the controls they need to present.
DimDim’s built in recording feature allows you to have a copy of your session, so you won’t loose any of your great content. A link to your recording will be sent to you in an email after your conference has ended, and you can download the file in flash format, or view the recording online.
You can even send the link to the recording to your attendees to review, or to others who were not able to attend. The one downside is that they put their brand at the beginning of your recording, and at the end, but if you use and love dimdim, why not show how you made this recording?
In conclusion, a great tool that you can use to increase your productivity. Check it out now at www.dimdim.com

Free Internet Tool – Remember Passwords
One of the coolest free tools I’ve come across lately is LastPass
It’s a password manager that’s both an online account, and also a tool bar plugin for FireFox and IE
Using U.S. Government encryption technology, it’s a easy, and very secure way to store your online passwords, and login information, as well as safe notes and identities for one click form filling.
Using the browser plugin allows you to jump right to any saved site and log in, or simply go to any site that you’ve told LastPass to save your login information for, and your username and password will automatically be filled in for you. Have multiple accounts for that site? No problem. Simply use the password manager bar that pops down, and choose another account to log in with.
If you create a new account at a new website, you’ll be given the option to create a username-password entry so that LastPass can save that site. LastPass will automatically grab your username and password, all you have to do is customize the entry name if you want something different than what LastPass has chosen, and then choose or create a new group for your entry to be stored under to keep your passwords organized. If you’re the kind that doesn’t like groups, then you don’t have to choose any group. LastPass is all about making the management of your online life easier for you.
What happens if you’re on another computer, and you don’t have LastPass installed on that computer? No Problem. You just go to www.LastPass.com log in to your account, and your account entries will be listed there for you, and you can login to your sites right from your account page in LastPass.com, as long as you’re using a FireFox or Internet Explorer browser.
Unfortunately, LastPass does not support any other browsers at this point, but then again, neither does the paid Roboform, and this does just as awesome, if not better of a job of keeping up with your passwords, and it’s also accessible from any computer.
This is one freebie you’ll just have to check out for yourself.
