One of the coolest free tools I’ve come across lately is LastPass

It’s a password manager that’s both an online account, and also a tool bar plugin for FireFox and IE

Using U.S. Government encryption technology, it’s a easy, and very secure way to store your online passwords, and login information, as well as safe notes and identities for one click form filling.

Using the browser plugin allows you to jump right to any saved site and log in, or simply go to any site that you’ve told LastPass to save your login information for, and your username and password will automatically be filled in for you. Have multiple accounts for that site? No problem. Simply use the password manager bar that pops down, and choose another account to log in with.

If you create a new account at a new website, you’ll be given the option to create a username-password entry so that LastPass can save that site. LastPass will automatically grab your username and password, all you have to do is customize the entry name if you want something different than what LastPass has chosen, and then choose or create a new group for your entry to be stored under to keep your passwords organized. If you’re the kind that doesn’t like groups, then you don’t have to choose any group. LastPass is all about making the management of your online life easier for you.

What happens if you’re on another computer, and you don’t have LastPass installed on that computer? No Problem. You just go to www.LastPass.com log in to your account, and your account entries will be listed there for you, and you can login to your sites right from your account page in LastPass.com, as long as you’re using a FireFox or Internet Explorer browser.

Unfortunately, LastPass does not support any other browsers at this point, but then again, neither does the paid Roboform, and this does just as awesome, if not better of a job of keeping up with your passwords, and it’s also accessible from any computer.

This is one freebie you’ll just have to check out for yourself.

  1. Hey Linda. I am able to use Roboform on the Flock browser, but it’s probably because it’s a Firefox cousin. Just fyi. But this sounds like a good alternative for my husband who doesn’t want to buy Roboform.

  2. I also use Roboform but have several friends who use this free tool and like it.

Thanks for commenting! Let me know how you are doing.
